Artist Dennis Ryan’s Giclees on Canvas

Artist Dennis Ryan from Pennsylvania collaborated with us to produce some Giclee prints of his original pieces of art. Dennis is a fine artist that paints, draws and prints about psychological disorders, anxiety, phobias, depression, focused on OCD—obsessive compulsive disorder. We were very thrilled to work with Dennis and look forward to working with him in the future. These awesome canvas prints were all printed on our premium matte canvas and stretched on 3/4″ stretcher bars. To learn more about Dennis and his art click here.

Rip Curl Huntington Beach Wall Art

The new Rip Curl store in Huntington Beach, California has some amazing collages up in their men’s and women’s dressing room areas. These collages caught my eye right away because of the awesome photography, vibrant colors and how well this was designed. These graphics are adhesive backed prints that install right to the surface of the walls. We thought this was an excellent execution of getting some art up on their walls.

Your iPhone Photos on Canvas Part 1

With the convenience of an iPhone these days, more and more people are taking advantage of the phones built in camera. We want to make sure that even if your best photo has been captured with your iPhone, you can still appreciate the photo as a piece of art. We are going to test the limits of the iPhone’s 3 megapixel camera and see how well these images can be reproduced as a custom canvas print. We will be printing the image on our glossy canvas and post the results shortly. Stay tuned for part 2 . . .

What Are Giclee Prints?

Print
Given the fact that we produce custom canvas prints, art paper prints and photo prints, we are sometimes asked the question by customers if these are giclee prints. Most of the time I want to answer yes because I feel every print we produce is a piece of art, but a giclee print refers specifically to an artist’s digital reproduction on a high resolution inkjet printer with archival inks.

The French word “giclée” (pronounced Gee’clay) means a spray or a spurt of liquid. The term refers to an inkjet printing method to reproduce an artist’s original artwork on canvas, fine art papers and photo papers. A giclee print is produced using only the highest resolution scanners, printers and archival inks.

The first step of the process is to create a high resolution scan of the artist’s orginal work. The second step is the proofing process which involves color correcting the file in Photoshop to match the original as close as possible. Finally, once the artist is satisfied with the color, the file is digitally archived and reproductions can be made on a on demand basis.

The great thing about giclee prints is that artists do not have to sell their original and their archived image can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media (canvas, fine art papers, photo papers), giving the artists the ability to customize prints for a specific client.

The above canvas prints were a recent giclee project we produced for a Los Angeles graffiti artist.

Here at Studio Light Room we use the finest printers and products by Epson and Hahnemuhle who are leaders in the fine art and photographic markets.

The Mini Tuna Alaia Surfboard

Sterling Foxcroft cruised by again to show off his latest shred stick, the Mini Tuna Alaia. This hollow, finless, 7′5″ Alaia shaped by Jon Wegener out of Redondo Beach, California has a plug near the nose to let out any water that may get in. When asked how the board rides, Sterling replied, “So sick.”

Wedding Package Designs

We just finished some wedding designs for Lauren and Daniel’s wedding who are getting married at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angeles. Working with Lauren throughout the process was one of the best experiences we have had with a customer. The package included the wedding invite, RSVP card, wedding program and table place cards.

Hurley Store Art

The Hurley Store at HSS in Huntington Beach has expaneded and some fresh new art has gone up on the dressing room doors. I thought this snake image done by Hurley artist Jason Maloney was pretty sweet. I love the colors and I think pretty much any art on wood always looks awesome.

Martin + Osa Wall Art

For me, going to the mall is not so bad. For one, it makes my wife happy and two, it gives me a chance to look at all the in store graphic displays. Some are cool and some are not. This one particular wall display at Martin + Osa was pretty impressive. Hundreds of 6″x4″ black and white photo prints were hung with the darkest prints placed to make out their logo.

Order custom black and white prints here.

The Great Artdoors – Awesome web developers

We wanted to take Studio Light Room online and offer customers a custom online print shop, but it was not as easy as we expected. After talking with a few big web agencies and being a bit scared of what they were offereing, we were lucky enough to hook up with Robert River and Cory Bosy of The Great Artdoors. The Great Artdoors was a perfect fit for us and we believe the experience was more personal than with the corporate big guys. From our initial meeting to the site launch, Robert and Cory always kept us in the loop and they were able to offer efficient solutions when needed. We are looking forward to taking our website to the next level and can’t wait to work with the The Great Artdoors again.
